There are all kinds of cool things happening around Staten Island in celebration of Halloween, and here are some of my personal picks. Have fun!
Haunted Historical Tour -- At the Garibaldi-Meucci Museum, every Friday in October, learn the history of the house and the role it has played in the history of Staten Island, and hear stories of several inhabitants who refuse to leave. Is the house haunted? After you review the evidence gathered by the Staten Island Paranormal Society, you be the judge. Tours will begin at 7 p.m. and are limited to 25 people per tour. Cost is $10, $5 for members. For reservations call 718-442-1608.
Pumpkin Carving -- Fri., Oct. 16th – 6:30 – 8pm Calling all artists…come and carve a spooky pumpkin to take home or donate back to the zoo for our fantastic Spooktacular event. Enjoy a pizza dinner and special spooky story time too. Children ages 5 and up – please no younger siblings. A paying adult must accompany a paying child. $15.00 non-members, $12.00 members. *Halloween Harvest Fair -- Saturday, October 17. 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. Conference House, Conference House Park. Family event with hayrides, rides, kids’ activities. Halloween costume parades. Free. Visit www.conferencehouse.org for more information.
Scary Stories -- At Historic Richmond Town. True or almost true, stories based on the Staten Island Historical Society’s archival material. A self-guided tour leads you through some of our “hauntingly lonely” buildings where you’ll meet many interesting characters. 7:00pm. $10/Adults, $8/Children.
*Spooky Tales to Tingle Your Spine -- Wednesday, October 28 4:00pm, South Beach Library. Recommended for ages 4 & up.
Halloween Extravaganza -- at the St. George Theater on October 30 at 7:30pm, Spooktacular is an award winning Broadway style magic show with outrageous sets, special effects and illusions that played at Six Flags Great Adventure for seven years and at Kansas City’s World’s of Fun Amusement Park for the past fifteen years. Wacky Dracky has appeared around the world and on national television with Elvira- Mistress of the Dark, on the Ricki Lake show and with Gordon Elliot on the Fox Network. Recommended for ages 8 and up as some parts may scare young children Doors open to "Haunted Theatre" at 6:00pm. Tickets: $28, $20, $18, $10
*Not Too Scary Halloween Party! -- Saturday, October 31. Halloween activities for everyone. Costumes encouraged. sponsored by Health Plus Free Admission. Noon - 4pm at the Staten Island Children's Museum. Info: 718-273-2060
Spooktacular -- Saturday, October 31, at the Staten Island Zoo. Join us for the spookiest and most celebrated Zoo event. There will be shows, crafts, activities, contests and plenty of Halloween fun for all! Saturday, October 24, 6:00 - 9:30pm. Sunday, October 25, 5:30 - 9:00pm. Ticket sales begin October 13, tickets limited. All ticket sales (Walk-ins and phone calls) are available from 11am – 2pm ONLY, 7 days a week.
